Who am I?
I'm working to create a clear, practical and legal pathway for Tiny Homes on Wheels (THOWs) in New Zealand.
For years I've researched, designed and advocated for Tiny Homes on Wheels, bringing together experience in architecture, building legislation, planning, policy, and real-world tiny house design.
My Master of Architecture research focused entirely on the legalisation of Tiny Homes on Wheels in Aotearoa New Zealand, examining the barriers people face and proposing practical solutions for government, local councils, and industry.
Unlike many countries, New Zealand currently has no dedicated Tiny House Association leading legal and policy advocacy. I'm working to help fill that gap by providing independent research, education, and advocacy for the tiny house community.
Beehive Briefing
My work led to an invitation to present my research and Tiny Homes on Wheels legalisation proposal at Parliament, where I spoke to Ministers, Members of Parliament, government agencies, industry representatives and the tiny house community. The presentation outlined a practical pathway towards a safe, legal and nationally consistent framework for Tiny Homes on Wheels.
Since then, I've continued meeting with Ministers, MPs, local councils and industry representatives to build a broader understanding of the proposed solution, discuss the practical steps required for implementation, and help move the conversation from identifying problems to delivering meaningful legislative change.
Education
Alongside this work, I'm creating educational resources for:
Tiny house owners and future owners
Councils and consent authorities
Government agencies
Politicians and policy makers
Architects, designers, builders and industry professionals
My goal is simple: to help create a legal, safe, and nationally consistent framework for Tiny Homes on Wheels.
International Impact
While my work is based in New Zealand, the issues surrounding Tiny Homes on Wheels are shared internationally. Because our Building Codes, planning systems and regulatory processes have many similarities with Australia, North America and parts of Europe, progress made here has the potential to contribute to conversations around the world. I also work alongside and support tiny house associations, advocates and professionals internationally wherever I can.
